Toruń has one of the best preserved gothic residential complexes in northern Europe, with many tenement houses retaining their original interior arrangement, 13th and 14th century cathedrals include the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Parish Church of St. Jacob and St. John's Cathedral. The Ratusz or town hall, now a museum, dates back to the 13th century, and later was used at times by Polish sejm or parliament.
